If you could buy...

any saddle you wanted. What would it be? I would have a hard time deciding, I think I would go with the Syd Hill Giltrow Gulf Poley. I wanted one when I bought my new Aussie, but the price tag was a bit too much for me at the moment.

I also lust after a Peruvian Side Saddle, but that will have to wait too. They are just so gorgeous!

Though at the moment, the next big purchase will be a trailer, I want a Brenderup Solo. Just have to sell a kidney or something to get it!

  1. *sigh* I have to work on buying a roof first. I've had no roof on my stalls since Hurricane Gustav. I've had 1/2 a roof for almost a year. :( THEN I have to work on a super awesome beginner's horse.

My dream saddle is a medium oil barrel saddle with red seat and back rawhide. Quality. Very deep and flat seat, aluminum stirrups, and not a super tall horn like some barrel saddles. A little red bling would be nice but let's not go overboard. I wouldn't even know where to start with brands though. Although, once I get the horse, I'll probably have to sell it to afford the saddle. lol

  2. Oh yea...go ahead and throw in a matching headstall, breastcollar, girth/flank strap, belt, and anything else that can and will match while you're at it. If I'm going to go bankrupt getting a saddle, I might as well just get the whole kit & kaboodle. :)

  3. Give me a few years to think about it. Me and my gelding are still trying to figure out what he is going to do for a career and at this point he is still growing out of things as he matures and puts muscle on.

For the short term I would love a wintec isabell dressage saddle 18" seat, flocked, with adjustable gullets. At least a synthetic will fit for a little while and they are not too expensive. I am just really cheap and can and will wait until I find what I am looking for in the size I am looking to get. Who knows by the time I can find what I am looking for I may have enough saved to buy new. LOL

  4. I want the Billy Cook Texas Wave barrel saddle. Its only $1000 and had I not gone used I would have been able to afford it! Spent $500 on a used saddle to have it fall apart on me and to have to run out and buy another used for another $500. Darn hind sight.

After that I would buy one of the Billy Cook show equitation saddles, another barrel saddle to replace my training one and viola! I'd be set.

  5. I would love one of the new Heather Moffett jumping saddles.

Or Devoucoux anything, as long as it fit. Dude, I would even do it in that horrible American flag style that you featured some time ago. :)

  6. I would love another Heather Moffet Vogue saddle, already have the dressage version. I would also like a couple Barefoots, a WOW saddle and anything else that catches my eye. I just love buying and trying out new saddles, there are so many I want to try!!!

  7. One that fits the Moose. I am looking at the moment and won't be buying anything cheap because it is cheap.

May even have to give up a current saddle to fund the new one. I'm ok with that. Found a County something or other for a reasonable price. New they are running a few thousand dollars...

  8. A custom made (just for me and my horse) Black Rhino barrel saddle. After years of fighting with saddle that didn't fit, I bought a used Black Rhino barrel saddle. I LOVE this saddle! It fits my mare better than any saddle I've ever ridden her in, and it fits me too. The only thing I would change would be to get a brand new one. This one was well loved before I bought it, and will continue to be.

  9. I currently own my dream saddle, an older dressage saddle that fits me and my horse perfectly. I suppose if I had the money I would go custom for a dressage saddle, something with little bigger knee rolls would be nice.

  10. A Pariani close contact saddle.

  11. A tree-less, or possibly fex-tree type western saddle. I ride several different horses, and don't yet have my own, so I like the idea of one that'll fit (it least nearly) any horse I ride. =) Other things about it, well made, all-leather, all-black, some tooling would be good, but not needed, nor is silver plating, 16+ inch seat, short(or round) skirt, deep seat/tall cantle, low horn, roller-buckle stirrup leathers, wide stirrups for big boots. And of course matching breast-collar, cinch, back cinch, bridle etc. =P

I've drooled over such saddles, as I need to get a saddle soon. I've got a job that part of it is to work-with and ride a horse, but he broke my old saddle, so I can't really ride him until I get another one, luckily he can use more ground work, manners and lunging too. Right now I can't afford much more then a used saddle, and there's not much in even that department that I can afford that's not cheap card-board leather or it least a 3 hour round-trip drive from me...

  12. There are lots I would buy..haha. I really want a triple creek custom saddle..they mostly do barrel saddles but since they are custom I'm hoping to get one that is suited for open shows that fits my short backed mare. They have many different trees that you can try out first to get one that fits. I'd love a tucker, and a barefoot treeless. Right now I have an older big horn synthetic, looks brand new. I asked the girl I bought it from if she used it..she swore she did daily for trail rides. I like that they are lightweight and they fit well. If I was going to pick an english one, probably a wintec. I did drool over a very soft one at an expo that I think was a lynn palm one..the leather was so soft it was unreal.

  13. I bought a 2010 Brenderup solo. I would consider leasing it. I am in Little Rock.

  14. I have a beautiful syd hill.... the leather is so amazingly soft... I just wish it fit my mare! it fits my old arab, which does me no good because his crochety old ass isn't rideable anymore...

I just missed, literally, by 5 min, a used circle y trail saddle for $250 at a yard sale. One of my coworkers got it before me... i got to touch it though... that circle y leather is so soft, I am still green with envy! I long for a circle y but can't afford the 500-750 for a used one, let alone the 1500+ for a new one!

  15. My ideal saddle would be a dressage saddle that fits me and every horse I ride like a glove. I know. I'm living in a complete dream world. I passionately love the one I have, and it fits my favorite horse, so I'm lucky.

Robbin, if you can, try to ride in the Wintec Isabell for more than 15 min. I know people who LOVE it, encluding endurance riders. It didn't work for me. It had no "give" and I felt like I had plywood between me and the horse. Personal opinion, and how it felt to me, not a slam on the saddle. Probably has to do with body type.

  18. I have my dream saddle. A Sensation Hybrid treeless saddle. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1685723434#!/photo.php?pid=406927&id=1685723434 It was custom made for me. Most comfortable saddle ever for me and my horses.

  20. I think you and I have very similar tastes.

One of these days my pony will get an SCA-esque costume...

  21. I would love a custom Skyhorse for Western, and a Stubben Scandica for dressage.

My current boy is a CAMEL with these impossible linebacker shoulders and a mountain of withers.

My current beloved 80s vintage Blue Ribbon all purpose close contact saddle will have to do for awhile longer. That's OK, that sucker is SOFT.

  22. OH, I also have a secret longing for a restored antique MacPherson like the one that got away.

I could be the Imelda Marcos of saddles if I were rich....

  23. I own my dream dressage saddle; a Frank Baines Reflex dressage. My dream hacking/CTR/OUT saddle would be a Frank Baines Enduro.

I also adore the Skyhorse saddles and would love one if I went back to drill. I used to covet my friend's Crates, lol.

  25. Hi! I am riding my horse across the country right now (from CA-NH...just passed into PA) and I wish I would have seen this blog a long time ago!

I was going to look on the site "tack of the day" and I came across your blog by accident!

Anyway-I'll look into it all more once I get home and have more time...thanks for all of the info!
