Big Hairy Deal

You know, for the life of me, I can't see the appeal of the hair-on cowhide seat. That would be slick as snot and would shed all over your butt.

  1. Oh, wow. Those are absolutely hideous.

  2. Yeah, cuz our breeches are definitely thick enough to keep out those hairs. Gotta love being poked in the crotch with hair every stride.

  3. And of course, each one of these saddles looks CHEAP AS HELL.

  4. Not that one needs a "sticky" seat to play polo, I just can't wrap my brain around the polo saddle. WTF? The first hard stop and rollback and you'll be buying some real estate.

  5. Slick as snot...I giggled.

And all I can think of is "prickles" when I see those. I've heard a girl at the local beauty salon call that "hair splinters". Poke. Poke. Poke.

  6. On the seat is bad enough. But, why the pommel?

  7. Ok, I can deal with the cowhide western saddles, since they at least may be seen around cows, and are better than the fuzzy pubes we saw earlier in the year. The english saddle, though, has my head scratching... Wouldn't that hurt to rub against (like you typically do in english)?

  8. They are gross! I just can't imagine hair on tack on my horses. No way. No how. But I don't care for hair left on anything like that. Fur skins on clothing are Ok in some designes but hair on cow hide? Just plain tacky!

  9. I really, really can't figure out why someone would want a Western look on their English saddle. And obviously, these saddles are made by people who never ride, or they would never be made in the first place.

  10. How great do they look when the hair is all worn off in patches? Yay! there's a look. Not a good one either.

And having body clipped a number of horses over the years, the hair can jab you like a splinter, just like Peaches said. Not fun in your fingers where the skin is a bit tougher, can't and don't want to imagine it anywhere else on my body.

Who comes up with this crap? And who BUYS it?

  11. It's sad when you realize, after looking at the hideousness of the second two, that the first one is "not so bad". I agree with Cut-n-Jump... who are these morons making this, and why is anyone buying it???

  12. western look on english saddle...

I have one theory. It's a polo saddle, not something you'd show in. The clue is the shape of the flap, the oddly cut pommel, the half panels and the slot in the flaps, which is for an over girth. (and that slot is handy, lemme tell ya)

Many folk who play polo have little to no interest in showing horses AND come from a western background. "My" player worn a GINORMOUS trophy belt buckle and western-ish boots under her pads. The buckle was won back-in-the-day when she showed AQHA.

Of course, she had enough taste to have "normal" polo tack.

*somebody* bought this thing. I'm sure... People are weird. I wouldn't buy the ostrich skin Hermes, but they made the thing.

  13. Bizarre is the only word that springs to mind.

Surely they're not run off their feet with orders for these dreadful attempts at horse tack.

Dear me, some folk have absolutely no idea and the scary part is that no-one else around them has any idea either or else they'd tell'em how horrible they are.

    Go figure ......
