A look at some of the most horrible examples of horse equipment on the market today.
Please remember, this blog is simply MY opinions. Everyone has some and like armpits, some stink! It is all subjective anyway. I am not telling anyone what to use at all. I am just making observations and stating my own likes and dislikes. If you do not agree, fine, you are entitled. THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY.
Please, read and enjoy and try not to be ugly to others. Everyone has a right to their opinions.

Patchwork
And not in the quilt sense of the word. Wow. I truly am rendered speechless here. I am told this is a super pricey, very nice brand of endurance saddle. In that case WTF are they THINKING??
Maybe this is the German version of Camo? The only website I've seen this on is the German website. The normal leather colored models sell for $1,625.00 in the US. Seems a little pricey since even the normal colored saddles have that funky shaped pommel. I do like their western style saddles though and they have a dressage saddle that looks more mainstream. Not knocking the brand just WTF were they thinking when they created this thing?
It's a specialist endurance racing saddle...the funky pommel is to hold on to on steep slopes so you don't unbalance the horse, I believe.
Conversation as I loaded this page.
Me: So, he was a fantastic horse...as long as you accept that looks aren't everything. Husband: Yeah. Me: ...that, on the other hand. (about a minute of speechless).
Ummmm, I do endurance, and never "hold on" to the pommel. Endurance saddles just often are made as such, no horn (as horns are for roping, again, not hanging on) But had not heard of this brand. And even with the use of bright biothane tack, I'd sure not buy this thing for the "color". YUCK And, the seams would rub after miles and miles on the trail
Ummmm I know endurance riders like it bright but, next to the HDT drivers, they're probs the most colour coordinated of all the disciplines! Can't see any of them using that monstrosity!
I LIKE bright. I LIKE patchwork. I do NOT like that hideous saddle. And I agree with tx trigger, the seams surely would rub your legs raw. The colors are all a little off, too, which could just be because of my monitor --- they look a little muddy. Not that clearer colors would make any difference with this ugly thing! But surely there will be someone who loves it to pieces. Ugh.
By all accounts they are very high quality saddles. They are treeless saddles but with velcro on panels underneath to 1. spread the weight of the rider. 2. create a spinal channel for the horse 3. to be more adjustable for different horses. If I HAD to have a traditional looking western saddle I'd buy one of their western models.
I am with banagade...it is so horrid...yet somehow alluring...I kinda want it...but yet it is YUCK...but I kinda like it... aw sh*t, the dang color wheels are making me nuts! :) would be something to start a conversation on miles of boring trail at least! ;) I like to play with color on my endurance horses...but COORDINATED colors, not a mish mash!
Looks like a nicely-made saddle quality wise, but the patches are cringe-worthy. Yes, endurance riders like color, but it is usually solid color that is well matched to the horse. You know, blue headstalls, breast collar, splint boots, bell boots, and saddle pad kind of thing. Not... that... at all.
Ya know what...? I totally dig it, actually. At first I wanted to vomit a bit, but now I actually would totally get this saddle. I'm not even an endurance rider. hahahaha. =p
The first thing that came to mind was "Mondrian," (but at least that artist stuck to specific colors and shapes.) This saddle comes across like those weird patchwork handbags they sell in catalogs in what looks like an effort to get rid of leather scraps.
I actually really like this, I think. I know nothing about endurance but it looks to be well made and I don't think the sport is subjective at all so it doesn't matter how you look. I personally think the patchwork is fun. :)
Freaky. I vote no.
ReplyDeleteI can't stop staring at it... I want it yet... not... maybe if it was... neon?

ReplyDeleteIt looks like something my grandma made. How does someone even expect a person to buy this? Let alone put it on a HORSE?
ReplyDeletewtf.
ReplyDeleteReally, wtf.
I can see it as like... an art piece, but on a horse? Just wow.
The upper right corner says "Startrekk" Maybe they expect you to be invinceble while riding in it. After you put up the shields and all.
ReplyDelete"May the horse be with you Obiwan." Oh wait, that's Star Wars.
Either way, blast it with the lasers. Zwaaaaaaap!

Except for that weird patchwork, it looks like a nice saddle.

ReplyDeleteTackiest saddle to date for sure!

ReplyDeletePerson 1: "Hey, what color do you want to make this saddle? We don't have much material left."
ReplyDeletePerson 2: "Just go ahead and make due with what you got."
Mein Gott in Himmel!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGerman stuff is almost always gorgeously functional... or.....
TACKY AS HELL.
So now I'm curious about Startrekk saddles. Are they good??

ReplyDeleteI am an endurance rider and my jaw dropped when I saw this! It reminds me of my mom's purse from around 1975 - I think they called them Hobo Bags!
ReplyDeleteGah! My eyes.
