Confused

This saddle looks very confused, it is like the bastard child of a Buena Vista and a western. Very odd looking. That horn looks like it just can't wait to catch some unwary male in the "nads" when the horse makes a sudden stop.

  1. It almost looks like the part with the horn was tacked on as an afterthought.

  2. Looks like a cheap knock-off of a Ortho-Flex or Tucker style saddle. I guess if you were racing in western saddles it'd be an advantage of getting up over the horse's withers and neck..."streamlined horn for speed...."

  3. Is that an Amish made Henry Miller Plantation style Saddle?
If so, it looks a lot like my first saddle. I agree that it's a crazy saddle and not a very safe one to ride in either.....don't ask me how I know.

  4. The pommel reminds me of an aussie without the knee rolls, and the rest looks normal. Although with that ugly horn, knee rolls wont help it!!!

  5. The pommel looks like a funnel/slide - so you can impale your lady bits or family jewels on that mean little horn if your horse pitches you forward. Also, is this saddle designed for Biggie Smalls? Your butt would need to be SIMPLY ENORMOUS to fill out that cantle.... Otherwise, you'd be sliding all over this saddle like you were riding a waxed dophin.
Anyway, it looks like it's made for a big fat man to ride a gaited something or other.
With saddles like these, no wonder so many riders of gaited horses have amazing chair seats and hunchy posture. You're defeated before you've even started!!

  6. Now, THIS saddle looks pretty, functional, well-made, and designed to help you maintain correct equitation: http://www.hillcrestsaddlery.com/images/hillcrest-saddlery-saddle-09-large.jpg
I don't even like plantation saddles, but I like THAT one, at least from the photo and company info. I'm a big fan of all-natural materials like leather + wool + wood....

  7. This Blog is the most pathetic piece of crap I have ever seen. This is why people hate the horse industry. because of people like who are so STUPID that you couldn't find your way out of your own ass! You make me ashamed to be in the horse industry.

  8. @leonap: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T READ IT! Sheesh, in the heading she states that her blog posts are only her opinions anyway; which, by the way, most of us find entertaining. Its rude, mean spirited jerks like you that give the horse industry a bad reputation.

  9. I came across the blog accidentally and I am stating MY opinion. This blog is mean spirited. All it does it make fun of others peoples choices in tack. I am in no way rude. This blog is rude. Get over yourself and learn to appreciate what other people want to do with their lives. Its not like you've never made a bad wardrobe choice in your pathetic life

  10. Cattypex- You cracked me up to the point I could not even read the rest of the comments here. You pretty much said everything I was thinking. Get out of my head would ya? ROFL!

Especially cracking up over the bit about riding a waxed dolphin. Spew warning worthy!

  11. Thanks.... I do see a lot of "unique" things with the gaited horse trail rider folks!!

As for leonap, hey, I've even made fun of MY OWN choices in tack, wardrobe and horses.

Heh. One time, for a long weekend of trail riding, a friend who only owned a Western show saddle borrowed someone's 1970s era Pepto Pink suede barrel saddle. It looked SO WRONG on her buckskin, with her reddish brown roughout schooling chaps. She caught a lot of flak from the rest of us.

But she really enjoyed the suede-on-suede Velcro effect, and felt so secure all weekend. I never stopped teasing her about it, any more than she stopped teasing me about the summer I showed in rust-colored breeches....

  13. to leonap--
This blog is actually doing horse people a favor by pointing out the kind of tack that is poorly made and dangerous to use because it will not hold up. The fact that humor is used to get the point across makes it more interesting. It is like someone designing a car with square tires and selling it like it was a top of the model. Wouldn't you laugh knowing that it will not do the job like cars with round wheels? A poorly made saddle that breaks during use could cause serious injury to the rider and horse. This blog helps gently prod people into learning about what to look for when buying a saddle and to know the good from the bad.

  14. to leonap--

Indeed, perhaps YOU should get over yourself. I have never made fun of any person in particular. I am simply stating my opinion on certain things. Most of the tack posted here is poor quality and has the potential to be harmful to horse or rider. The fact that most of it is hideously tacky is a bonus. Go somewhere else and troll someone else's blog.
