It's that time of year again...

...Yep, it's huntin' season again! Time for the barrage of camo saddles to begin. Though this one looks like it was done with markers by a five year old Craptackistani child. At least the seat and swells are black, you know, so you don't lose it in the woods. Though I personally think it should have blaze orange accents myself. That would just make it the awesome, am I right?

Return of the camo...

Been awhile since I have seen anything new on the camo front. This one is very, um, stylized in pattern. RealTree it ain't.

Space Dressage

Someone sent me the link to this company, O-M-E-G-A, who makes saddles with "anatomic" trees. They may be high tech and well made, but they look like something from the space program. Or a comic book. Either way, they are strange looking things and they come in pretty much any color of the rainbow.

Ah, yes. Traditional and formal black and white. Not so bad. A real bear to keep clean though.

Red and black, OK if you are goth. Or in the SCA and your colors are red and black. Awe Hail Gleann Abhann baby!

Ostrich, mmkay. Showing off a bit are we?

Teal, hmmmm. Maybe if you were an endurance rider.

Bright freaking royal blue, see comment above.

Ok, really people? I thought we American rednecks were the only ones making camo-colored saddles. For shame.

Just In Time For Hunting Season

Just the right thing for the hunter in the family. A camouflage saddle pad and saddle bags to top it all off.

Bad Blue

Nice. Blue ghetto-flauge. Not quite as offensive as the pink version, but pretty obnoxious. The free blanket it comes with doesn't even match.

Easing into the week...

In order to make a stealthy entrance into the week, we have a camo saddle to use. So Monday doesn't get us. But, just in case, it has some blaze orange to make sure Sunday or Tuesday don't mistake us for someone else.

Crazy Camo

My thanks to the reader who sent me this horror. Now, we have experienced the camo saddle in several different incarnations; Bubba and his Real Tree saddle, Boudreaux and his Mossy Oak saddle, and several others that used camo accents on seats, stirrups and the like. However, those all pale in comparison to this, um, unique saddle. It features camo of a different sort, a variety known buy the uncomplimentary name of Ghettoflauge. It comes in several varieties, pink, purple, blue, red, and various combinations thereof. This saddle is the pink variety and absolutely hideous. It comes in a set with matching bridle, breastcollar and saddle blanket. Yuck.

Please don protective eye wear.

Revisits

Today I have a couple of "revisits".

Remember Bubba and his camo saddle? Well, it seem dat hi'cousin Boudreaux from sou'Lousiana (pronounce it phonetically, this is my attempt at typing in a Cajun accent) done got him a camo saddle too. Here she is, in her Mossy Oak glory. Now ol Boudreaux, de game warden no see him an his hoss in da swamp.

Next we revisit the patriotic saddles. A helpful reader sent me this link to a Polo supplier. They not only carry the British flag saddle, but several other countries as well. For all those wondering what the US one looks like, here it is.

Remember the pink and black English saddle from the very first post? Well, I have found one for the non-pink set. The same saddle, but in BLUE!!

Wow, the things people will do to tack never ceases to amaze and horrify me.

Dude, where’s my saddle?

Welcome, it’s Monday, and as promised I am back with more Tack!!

Today I present a perplexing problem, a camouflage saddle! Picture this if you will…

Bubba has finally fulfilled his dream, an elk hunting trip in the Rockies. They were to ride horses in to the mountains and camp for 3 days while hunting. In his excitement, he purchases a new saddle. It is the coolest thing he has ever seen. The entire thing is CAMO! They arrive at the lodge, it is early fall. As they saddle up the horses to head out the guide keeps looking at Bubba’s saddle with a strange expression, Bubba thinks he’s jealous of his cool new saddle. That night, they arrive in the base camp after dark, Bubba has been imbibing a bit in the whiskey in his hip flask. As he stumbles around unsaddling his patient mount, he leans his saddle against the base of a tree and stumbles to the camp to pass out. Being fall, overnight a brisk breeze causes a huge amount of leaves to fall. The next morning, nursing an aching head, he goes to saddle his horse, only to discover that his saddle is GONE!! He can’t find it anywhere! The guide politely suggests that perhaps a camouflage saddle might not have been the best idea.

I have for your entertainment not one but two camouflage saddles!

This first one is not terrible. It only has the camo on the seat, latigo keeper, and stirrup hobbles, most of it easily obscured by the rider’s body. It even has some little silver embellishments. You would stand very little chance of losing it in the woods if you were camping. I am not sure WHY you would want this, but I really don’t like camo. Guess I am not THAT much of a tomboy.

Next we have the real focus of this post. This saddle appears to be quite well made and seems to be of good quality. The only issue I have is that the ENTIRE THING is camouflage! I have no idea how they got it like this. Is it some kind of screen printing? It really makes no sense to me to have it other than the potential “Dude, check out my saddle, it’s Realtree!” In my opinion, if you are riding in the woods, you would want to be MORE visible, not less. And really, having a camo saddle is not going to help you hide from the critters, the horse isn’t camouflage.

Look! It even comes with a matching breastcollar!!

Impressive, no? When I found it all I could was just stare, and recheck the page to make sure it was for real.
