Today I have a couple of bits sent to me by readers. The first one is a bit someone found in a tack shop that she rescued the local horses from. It looks homemade, but alas, it turns out that you can buy a shiny new one from Reinsman bits. Rod's even sells it with a warning label on their site "use with extreme care". Snort, really?
And, in case the snaffle isn't sufficently horrible, you can buy a curb version.
It makes me sad for the horses of the world.
A look at some of the most horrible examples of horse equipment on the market today. Please remember, this blog is simply MY opinions. Everyone has some and like armpits, some stink! It is all subjective anyway. I am not telling anyone what to use at all. I am just making observations and stating my own likes and dislikes. If you do not agree, fine, you are entitled. THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY. Please, read and enjoy and try not to be ugly to others. Everyone has a right to their opinions.

Scary Pink Saddle of the Week
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Is this for a camel?
Wow, this thing is funky looking. Looks like it was made for a horse with a hump. It says that it is treeless, but it still looks WAY strange. I also question the quality, it looks like it is made from cheap cardboard leather.

Warning - "Bling" Overload
Please don your protective eyewear. This post contains an obscene amount of sparkly stuff.
The "bling" phenomenon seems to be growing, rhinestones spreading like a bad rash. Now people are bedecking every available surface with as many as they can cram onto them. Here we have a selection of stirrups for your Western saddle.

Hmmm, not TOO offensive. A rather muted color scheme.
Erm, is that supposed to be flames?
Another set that is fairly tame.
And then, these. Ouch. I do believe even the metal of the stirrups is pink.
Now we have the next new thing in "bling" (God I hate that word), HOOFBLING! Not just some sparkle hoof polish, but actual rhinestone designs to put on your horsies little toes.
NO, NO, NO! It is a HORSE not a @*#^$ POODLE!!

What's your peeve?
Ok, so we all know that my peeves are as follows:
Stupid people.
Overly harsh bits.
Using hardware to solve software issues.
The combination of the aforementioned people, equipment, and practice.
Big lick Walking Horses.
Obnoxious tack.
Anything sparkly.
What are yours and why?
And to keep you from going into Tack withdrawal here is some. I think the expression on the guy in the gray hoodie's face says it all...
Aaaaaarrrrrrrrr mateys! Be sendin' me some more fodder you scurvy dogs!!

Scary Pink Stuff of the Week
I didn't have a truly frightful enough saddle for today, just some moderately scary ones. So, I decided to post what I had as well as some other scary pink stuff to make up for it.
Enjoy
See? Not so bad. I have seen SO much worse. The bridle and breastcollar are pretty fugly, but the saddle, not too offensive.
Is that Play-doh? What the heck?
"Parade" bridle. Nice.
Pink horse van, from across the pond. Nice.

Wow
This is, um, unique. Touted as a decoration for your home, with the seat made from black and white glitter and the rest of it festooned in humongous rhinestones. Fun.

Scary Pink Saddle of the Week
Yes, you are seeing correctly. This is indeed a pink and black dressage saddle. I am just awed by the vast array of hideous pink saddles that are currently available. Someone must be buying them, they have to be or they would not keep producing this crap. The color is a bit off, this thing really is screaming pink, in the photo on the post, you can almost imagine that it is oxblood red and black, which is not QUITE as bad. But, alas, it is merely an anomaly of the digital image.

"Orange" you glad I found this...
...just in time for Halloween?
Mwah-ha-ha-ha!!
Sorry, couldn't help myself! This might would be neat if you were riding in a Halloween parade. The rest of the year, not so much. Black synthetic, with orange rhinestones, orange accented conchos, orange piping, orange trim and an orange seat. Hmm, I suddenly have this bizarre craving for an orange push-pop.

Sales Ad FAIL
This photo was on a sale ad on Dreamhorse. I was amazed at the total FAIL here. Gosh, pick yourself up by the reins much? Great example of equitation too, by the way. This horse is a saint for putting up with this crap. Cant really figure out the hardware on him either, looks like just a plain snaffle (so probably not really hurting the horse TOO much) and a tangle of reins and martingales. The humongous cloud of dust mostly obscuring the horse is a nice touch too, sure makes me want to buy him. He looks cute, but who can really tell?

Totally OT
Hey, need some help here folks. We found this little dog in the parking lot at work and it needs a home. She appears to be a terrier mix of some kind and around 6 months old. She is super friendly and energetic. She seems quite smart and is very inquisitive. She is not spayed as far as we can tell. Located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Email me at tackytackoftheday@yahoo.com. Thanks!
