Cut-n-Jump sent me this saddle. She found it while searching for a new saddle for her husband. It is called the "Old Pro". I have to admit that it may be one of the strangest shaped saddles I have ever seen. It really doesn't even look very comfy, unless you are rail skinny and have no butt to speak of (I know MINE would never fit in the seat "pocket"). I would feel like I was riding uphill all the time. I am sure this saddle has a purpose, but is sure is odd looking.

It looks like it would feel like going uphill ALL THE TIME. Not so comfy
ReplyDeleteIs it meant to fit a horse with super high withers?
ReplyDeleteall i can think of is unbelievable crotch pain at the sitting trot with that one. you'd always have to be in 2-point or posting (if either is even possible in that saddle)... ew.
ReplyDeleteIt's worse than the old equitation style saddles. No way a guy could ride in it!
ReplyDeleteFrom the tiny pic that shows up on dashboard, I was wondering why on earth this saddle was here because it looked kinda nice. Then I clicked on the blog, saw the seat, and just cringed. It looks like it would be as comfortable as sitting in an adjustable bed that has malfunction and adjusted too far.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's for riding horses whose front legs are about 8-10 inches shorter than their back legs...
ReplyDeleteIt would surely lock the rider into place but would be awful at anything other then a smooth walk. Ouch ouch ouch

I know I know! Maybe it's the saddle equivalent of the Sleep Number Bed. Someone has over-inflated it to the highest number to show how extreme it can go?
ReplyDeleteif not....OW
It must be for those Quarter Horses they're showing nowadays that are disturbingly downhill. So THAT's how they do it!
ReplyDeletefreaky is right. Where do you suppose it was made? We used to see english saddles from india with weirdly stuffed and unbalanced knee rolls and some times thigh rolls.
ReplyDeletelmfao looks like a normal saddle front and a kids back end stuck together. wtf.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a lot like the equitation saddle I used as a teen. It had the seat built up in the front. It was supposed to put the rider in a "perfect" position. I only used that thing when the guy who owned the barn made me. otherwise I avoided it. Not comfortable at all. And that one wasn't nearly as high as the one in the picture.
ReplyDeleteIt is a Simco. No idea about it fitting high withers or what.
ReplyDeleteWithout all the stupid high padding and the extreme front of it, the saddle I have and have ridden in for years, looks remarkably similar. It is really comfortable and I love it, so that's why we looked.
When I found this, several things spilled out of my mouth- none of them flattering, inspiring or good in any way.
I figured "Old Timers" whose body was bent and used from too many hours in the saddle already, could just lean/lay over the front and prop themselves up for another day of riding.
Hubby went with a Stray Dog, which I found online because of an ad on RFD, (of all places) in the wee morning hours with the girls. Semi custom for a decent price.
I'll let you know how he likes it when it gets here. He'll probably be sleeping on the floor using it for a pillow like the cowboys used to do.
I think it looks like it's for forcing the rider to sit back the way they're supposed to. Nothing like getting racked as a reminder.
ReplyDeleteSo if a freaky bit can't substitute for proper training in the horse, shouldn't the same go for a freaky saddle and the rider?
Forget the rider- what horse is that going to fit???? Any horse with normal withers and the rider will be on their crotch with the back of the saddle in the air! Shit, I hope they don't canter in that thing!

That's it!!! It's for those guys who ride the sport bikes. That's the natural riding position for the high performance crotch rockets, so making a saddle like that for high performance horses makes perfect sence!
Whoa.. that thing looks like it'd force you into a chair seat. Who needs to keep their heels under their shoulders? That's crazy talk, clearly..
