Model Tacky
A reader who also makes model horse tack sent me a pic of one of her recent creations. I got permission to post it here for you guys to enjoy. I also would like her to post her website (if she has one) and name, as I saved the pic then promptly deleted the email (duh). It is incredible work and super detailed. In my opinion it is MUCH better than the things that get posted to this blog. At least all the shades of purple match and the tack is well made!

OF COURSE it matches. I'm a hunter princess, I don't do "clash". The key is not to try to match colors exactly. Go for shades of the same color within a few "values" of each other.
ReplyDeleteThe saddle pad was just lucky. I bought that on MH$P years ago and the suede was a completly separate purchase. The ribbon, felt and fun foam all came from Mal-Wart.
I don't normally make western tack, of any kind! The first time out, she was second in a games class. This after I flat out BOMBED in pretty much every.single. english class I entered a horse in.
I did manage to make the fenders free moving. I've done adjustable western stirrups, just not on this one. The bridle goes on with sticky wax. I hate it when people make bridles that go over the mane on models w/o a bridle path.

Beautiful work!!! Wow oh Wow what an artist. I just wish you had run the tiedown through the ring on the breast collar...makes me cringe every time I see one in real life worn like you have it on your model.
ReplyDeleteToo bad it isn't horse sized. That would look so Flashy on my OTTB mare. If she were a barrel horse that is... lol.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can say to help improve it- the fenders eed to be moved forward a bit. Otherwise it is all good.
Everyone's a critic.
ReplyDeleteI *did* show it with the tie down thru the ring. It's massively difficult to do and causes metal fatigue on that lil jump ring. I'd like this set to make it thru NAN before needing any repairs! Storing the set with the tie down thru the ring is out of the question, so for a fast photo session, this is what ya get.
I am a model horseshow judge who enjoys judging the performance classes the most. I have been the judge at a few NAN-qualifying shows here on the East Coast. I agree with the tie-down comment...maybe adding a second ring to the breastcollar ring (or a small loop strap a bit lower on the strap that goes between the horses legs like some real nylon breat collars have)to slip the tie-down strap through would help? I do crack down on that when I'm judging but only as a tie-breaker or something similar as having a keeper for the tie-down strap is not mandatory while gaming (I've gamed for years in the real horse world too) although having it loose like that is a safety hazard. Anyway, yes, gorgeous work! And I love the horse too!
ReplyDeleteWow Pat...I looked at your site. Beautiful tack! Do you come down to Maryland/Virginia to shows? I may have seen or met you at the Sea2Bay show sometime if so. Beach Party Live (Stone Horses) is coming up in less than 2 weeks in Pokemoke City, MD. Do you ever go to shows as a vendor?
ReplyDeleteJessica....OMG I finally got around to browsing your website and your models are gorgeous! Hmmm....I own a red roan sabino Marsh Tacky mare and recently aquired a Breyer who looks alot like her. I may contact you about repainting from phots if you can.
ReplyDelete*photos...yeesh can't spell this morn
