It seems that tastelessness knows no borders...

Yesterday I brought you some saddles that had some, um, interesting hair on accents. Today I have something even better. An ENTIRE SADDLE made of hair on cowhide. And yes, is is an English saddle oddly enough. Nothing says English style and class like big brown and white spotted cowhide huh? Wow, not only is this the epitome of tacky, can you imagine how slick this sucker is? Ever tried jumping bareback? Well, this saddle would be just like that, only it would cost more. And not to mention the fact that it would be prickly. Oh, and now we have to groom our saddle as well as our horse. Gosh, what were they thinking when they made this?

  2. Shocked to see such an atrocity in an Engish saddle. I don't ride English, but usually they seem to have less "tacky" in their tack. What self respecting English person would buy such a thing?

  3. Okay, you called me on my comment about the western hairy saddle yesterday, so they DO make an english hairy saddle! And what happens when you ride in it and the hair wears off in the "pressure point" places, like where your seat bones and calves make contact? You have a partially bald saddle? Ick.

It does look prickly. If I want hairs poking me in the behind, I'll ride bareback. If you need a seat fuzzy for a cushion, use the removable sheepskin ones, at least they are removable for proper CLEANING!

  5. Ok it is definitely official people have more money than sense! Why in gods name make this horrid saddle let alone someone is going to BUY IT! Good lord there are better things to do with your money... like burn it. LOL

  6. Ok I am usually all for my very classic looking english saddles, but the hide pattern is pretty cool...and I MEAN THE PATTERN ONLY. But the idea of making a hide covered english saddle...WTF. Geeze my arab is already a "you better have your balance ride" and has "labrador skin" when it comes to bareback.

If I want hair up my fanny Ill just ride bareback thanks.

  7. The *hide* pattern IS kinda' cool, but on an English saddle??? Might as well ride bareback on a show-sheen covered horse...

  9. Wow, the only thing that could make it better is if the hair-on cowhide was dyed a snazzy purple and pink combo! With rhinestone accents! And neon cut-outs of poorly-made crosses or hearts! (Just wait... someone will come out with a tacky saddle just like that, if there's one thing I've learned from reading this blog.) Aggggghhh!

  10. WOW, it could blend in with my skewbald and no one would know I even had a saddle, I've finally found a way to completely colour co-ordinate my horse, plain tack is soooooo last year, it's soo Kewl! *sarcasm*

  11. I don't know...I kinda like it! I mean, the design and quality looks pretty good. I think it's neat! I wouldn't buy one, but if someone gave me one I'd think it was pretty cool.

I might spend more time that I'd like to admit to just petting it though...

  12. Just imagine what would happen when the stirrup leather start to rub those hairs off the flap.

  13. But if you wore a cow suit, too, no one would see you in a herd of cows.

Except your bridle. All they would see would be a floating bridle. That brings us to this point: Do they make a matching bridle?

  14. Hey, I know! It's meant to be used on a brown-and-white pinto, so that it LOOKS like you're riding bareback! Now we just have to find the saddle pad to match, to complete the illusion!

  15. This would almost be cute, if it was a pattern and not actual hair.

  16. Wow I would imagine the hair would rubb off after about the 5th ride in it.

  17. I imagine the hair would not only rub off, but go places it doesn't belong too.

I can't imagine this being any bit of comfortable to ride in.

My gelding that freaked out over a horse hair mecate, who also was not fond of cows... godd luck getting that on his back, let alone staying on, if mounting is even possible.

    Please be photoshopped...please be photoshopped...

  19. I would NOT ride in that thing if it was the last piece of tack on the face of the planet! That thing looks like it would be harder to ride in than riding bareback! UGLY!!!!!!

  20. I actually kind of like it, it looks very different and kind of cool here in the land of plain boring black saddles (Finland) but hands down, it looks so unpractical. Love your blog btw!
