So, are the cutouts supposed to be crosses or lower case "T"s? The one on the very back is very wonky looking, the left "arm" is sort of deformed an blobby looking. Not to mention the fact that it is fake ostrich that has been dyed purple. Blech. Who comes up with this crap? Surely we can come up with a better way to advertise our religious affiliation than a blobby cross (at least that is what I think it is) cutout on a cheapie saddle. The purple and the reddish brown of the saddle really clash too.

Nothing like some lopsided, wiggly crosses to set off the blech colors and overall tackiness. AND what were they thinking putting a cross cutout on the tree? How many crosses do you really need to make your point. I am a Christian and ashamed of this saddle! YUCK!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that Drillrider. If it were just the one big one on the back skirt, and it was the same light cream color as the other parts, then it wouldn't be too bad. I'd even ride it. But why splash 8 or so crosses (notice the one half hidden in front as well) on a saddle? I don't even think the pope would need that many. I almost expected one on the seat (can you imagine the bad jokes there... sorry, I know. 5 Hail Mary's, 2 Our Fathers...).
ReplyDeleteThe Pope.....LOL!!!! Maybe all Catholics would need to genuflect and do the sign of cross with Holy Water before mounting when using this saddle?
ReplyDeleteUgh. looks like that cardboard leather, too.
ReplyDeleteWhy does it always have to be crosses? Every time I go look at the blingbling tack at the local stores, there are so many more pieces with crosses than with any other decoration.
ReplyDeleteDo the tack makers get that not everyone that rides western is a Christian?? Why intentionally limit your market?
It would make more sense to stick to symbols that people of all faiths would purchase.
This particular saddle is eck, but I love bling and there are some well-made items I would buy in a second...if it wasn't for the damned crosses!
UGH.
ReplyDeleteHow come so much Christian "art" is TACKY?
Like horse art, it's very hard to find anything made in the last 150 years that isn't... well, UGLY.
I'm such a heathen, but I confess to finding a certain bad girl "El Mariachi" aesthetic appeal in the idea of a quality handmade saddle with vintage silver & turquoise Mexican crosses.....
But that would negate any redeeming Christian virtue. ; )
Hey, how 'bout decorating a saddle with Stars of David... ; )
ReplyDeleteOr pentacles? How'd that go over??
Drillrider - I thought the same thing. If the pope were to ditch the popemobile for a horse, his holiness might ride on something like this
ReplyDeleteThis one wins the ugly contest of the month. It is way over the top.

that is the Holiest Saddle I have ever seen !
ReplyDeleteI believe now! if you put that on a horse I bet you can ride straight to heaven
OMG, Drillrider, you crack me up! But I like cattypex's idea--let's do a line of saddles for each religion! A cute little budda cutout for Buddists, a yin and yang in lime green and electric orange for the Taoists...the possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeleteUm...4-H project gone haywire? What happened to plaster hand prints?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sacreligous to use religous symbols in poor taste and bad ways? Wouldn't this travesty certainly qualify?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't the cows and faux ostriches just be appalled their hides were used in such a display of disgusting?
