A couple of readers sent this fine specimen of Tacky Tack to me. They are different photos of what look to be the same model of synthetic PLAID saddle. Yes folks, plaid. Not what William Wallace would have had in mind by a long shot. This thing is absolutely hideous. Who on earth thought this was a good idea. It isn't even a decent or recognizable tartan like Blackwatch. No, it is a eye hurting riot of colors. No respectable horse would be caught dead in this repulsive getup.

Of course, most of the "Clan Tartans" that Scotophiles (Is that a word??) slavishly study are complete fabrications of the so-called Sobieski Stuarts, who were utter frauds....
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that's one ugly saddle! Why on earth would you mix cordura with leather?
Good Lord, who MAKES these things?
ReplyDeleteCattypex! You taught me something new today. I never heard of the Sobieski Stewarts before. I love esoteric bits of knowledge like this.
ReplyDeleteAs to the saddle, "Bleeeaargh" Maybe once it got really dirty the plaid would be covered up. For very muddy trailrides, though you can't beat the synthetics. (Swamp chick, here).
Ok, I'd like to find one person who actually truly likes this saddle. Seriously!!!???

ReplyDeleteNever mind... I thought you said you were a person who liked this saddle. Then I went for more coffee.
ReplyDeleteI don't why, because IT IS UGLY, but I like it. There is something odd that about it that appeals to me. Weird...there must be a cold front in hell.
ReplyDeleteOkay. My brain just made it worse.
ReplyDeletePicture a tourist in Bermuda shorts of a contrasting plaid with a camera around his neck going on a rental ride...
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
H: You have GOT to be kidding? Maybe this saddle is for the person that just HAS to be different. It's different alright, but not is GOOD way!!! BARF!
ReplyDeleteDamn! My eyes!
ReplyDeleteThat really takes it. Looks like the old chesterfield in my parents rec room way back in the '70's. Gag.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me think of the old days when horse traders would put bait and switch ads in local papers 'horse for sale ,comes with saddle and bridle' this is the saddle
ReplyDeleteSeriously even a newb who was new to horsemanship surely never saw an old western where the cowboys were on plaid saddles!
When sewing, it is often imperative to match up the prints- stripes, plaids, etc. That's the biggest issue I have. They couldn't even make the stripes all run the same direction! It's ugly to begin with, but that just amplifies it for me.
