Someone across the pond spotted this abomination at a local competition. So yes, there are really folks out there USING these things. Gag.

A look at some of the most horrible examples of horse equipment on the market today. Please remember, this blog is simply MY opinions. Everyone has some and like armpits, some stink! It is all subjective anyway. I am not telling anyone what to use at all. I am just making observations and stating my own likes and dislikes. If you do not agree, fine, you are entitled. THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY. Please, read and enjoy and try not to be ugly to others. Everyone has a right to their opinions.
Looks like a well-made saddle... esp. if it warrants the belly guard thingie.
ReplyDeleteMaybe jumpers & eventers are the English equivalent of contesting girls...
And again, George Morris quietly rocks in a corner, knees drawn up to his chest, humming brokenly to find his Happy Place....
I agree, it does look like a quality saddle. I could so see 13 or 14 year old girl using this. Not for me though.
ReplyDeleteActually, if I was in to pink, this is a nice saddle, but since I'm not......no thanks! Otherwise, it is tastefully done, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of pink and will never have a saddle with pink on it, but at least it's not completely pink. It's just an accent color so it's not screaming, in-yo-face pink.
ReplyDeleteBut all I can think of is how long someone's legs have to be to reach those stirrups. I'm just used to seeing western stirrup lengths I guess.
Actually, Peaches, I'm fairly sure the rider doesn't actually ride with the stirrups that length, but just took them off for cleaning or something. Unless she's doing mounted games...
ReplyDeleteBut this one isn't too bad. It's not in your face pink, and if you LIKE pink... It's not like that hideous dressage saddle from the other day...
Hmm, well made perhaps... but still- gag me. The pink panel isn't the worst thing in the world... but really, the stirrup leathers? A bit overboard if you ask me- though not as bad as some of the others...
ReplyDeleteJudging from the waaaay long stirrup leathers, I wonder if this was somebody's "first saddle" for their "first pony" and they're in the process of outgrowing both?
ReplyDeleteTsk tsk for leaving a saddle on a rack w/o the stirrups run up!
ha ha ha ha ha ha! Dang it, why did I have to be drinking soda when this pic came up?!? What a mess.
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing me with the kind of laugh usually only a Mel Brooks movie can provoke. :)
OMG--the Pink stirrup leathers--OMG
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you Cattypex for the image of a shattered George Morris.
Yep, we're definitely getting desensitized here, because my first thought was, "At least it's not ALL pink!!!"
ReplyDeleteJust curious if I can have the link to this? I'm interested to see more about it. I would never buy it though. If it wasn't pink, but a more neutral color like burgandy, it would be a cool cross country saddle.
ReplyDeleteLOL perfect picture of George Morris!! Hes just barely starting to accept the "brightly colored" saddle pads in eventing, this might send him over the edge! However I do agree for a cross country saddle it would be kinda fun, not so much in pink necessarily and I think I'd stick with black stirrup leathers.. But I can totally see many a pony club kid going wild over these.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure if George Morris followed this blog, even he would feel the way I do: This isn't the worst we've seen. Heck, compared to some of the monstrosities we've seen (Taxi Saddle and Giant Rhinestone Saddle with no stirrups come to mind...). The leathers could be swapped out with black ones for a more classic and appropriate look, but this would probably be fine for novice jumping or eventing.
ReplyDeleteShakes head.
ReplyDeleteThe Devoucoux people will do ANYTHING to make a buck. Absolutely anything.
Yes, it's well made and for the $4k or more you would expect to pay, it bloody well better be.
Anything custom ordered is going to be pricey any way, and unless you are buying a used one, that's the only way to get one. You have a snooty person come to the farm and measure and trace, talk you the rest of theway into high $$ saddle and then you hand over your checkbook.
It's an Ioldy, I believe. The stirrups are probably set at the length the rider normally uses. These saddles have SHORT and FORWARD flaps. This aint no "novice" saddle. Nobody goes out and buys an Ioldy to play about with.
Nope, looked it up. It's a Chiberta, not an Ioldy. Ioldy's are 'monoflaps' and have exposed billets running over the top of the flap.
ReplyDeleteAs with the bile green Hennig, if it showed up in my tack room I wouldn't complain. Pink and all, it's still nicer than anything I currently own.
Cattypex-I LMAO at your George Morris.
ReplyDeleteDue to having read way too many Jump Clinics, and having trained first as an eq rider, my eventing attire has always been ultra conservative. I am guilty of the occasional non black/burgandy/hunter/navy stable item, but a 4K saddle? I guess, like Pat, I wouldn't complain it it showed up at my door. Leather dying can't be that hard!

Ok I only just managed to get back into my account but I'm glad someone's pointed out that it is indeed a high end, close contact, very expensive cross country saddle! There's nothing unusual about the length of the saddle flaps (indeed it appears to be a mono flap anyway) or the stirrups. TBH if you have to have pink tack, it's not too offensive and if you're lucinda fredricks you can pull it off! lol
ReplyDeleteYou know, if it was deep blue, I'd actually like it!
ReplyDeleteIf you simply took away JUST the stirrup leathers and replaced them with black ones it wouldn't be a bad thing at all. At least it's a soft pink and not a violent in your face Barbie corvette pink.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand... I've ridden ina saddle very similar to this one, in brown, and they are very comfortable and highly well made.
Cattypex-the george morris part made me laugh so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say about the saddle is...
IWANTITIWANTITIWANTIT!!!!!
Its freaking AWSOME! Granted, I would change out those stirrup leathers, but everything else is perfect! It would go perfect with my "Tough Enough To Wear Pink" theme. I simply MUST have it.
I wonder if it would give the hunter judges a heart attack though. Maybe I should do jumpers...
You know, as I more closely read all these comments that mention George Morris, the more I want to show up at one of his clinics in all the pink tack and my tie dye halter. I think that might be the end of him...
ReplyDeleteWhere can I find one for my daughter?!!! She keeps asking for a pink saddle!!! She is 8 and I think it would be perfect for her!
