Look what I gots! A sidesaddle, I rode it for the first time yesterday, an hour and a half trail ride, it was so comfortable! I even hopped a little creek with it.

A look at some of the most horrible examples of horse equipment on the market today. Please remember, this blog is simply MY opinions. Everyone has some and like armpits, some stink! It is all subjective anyway. I am not telling anyone what to use at all. I am just making observations and stating my own likes and dislikes. If you do not agree, fine, you are entitled. THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY. Please, read and enjoy and try not to be ugly to others. Everyone has a right to their opinions.
are those pictures of you??
ReplyDeleteif so you have a pretty horsey :)
YAAAAAYYY!!! In garb, no less. Happy for you!
ReplyDeleteSo happy in fact, I won't even rail about how utterly inaccurate *that* saddle would be for SCA. Never mind the SBM's...
Kidding, honest. You know what I mean, the kind of SCA'ers that come close to blowing an anyrusim (sp?) if you "do something WRONG". Here, dude, have a beer and go join that fight over THERE. No, no, you don't need your helm, here's a padded stick, go have fun. Over THERE.
oh, hey, FWIW, this is the first year I'm in the NAN Auction, and stangely enough, I'm making a sidesaddle set.
ReplyDeleteModern huntseat, not period.
You Rock! We are the Society of Sidesaddle Siters and will be at an exhibition at Equifest in Wichita next month - would love to have you join us.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. The saddle looks great with you and your horse, have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Give us a pic of just the saddle...who makes it, where did you find it? (still looking myself)
ReplyDeleteIf you jumped on and rode and hour and a half, I'm thinking you might have ridden sidesaddle before? You too look great together!
ReplyDeleteoops - "you two" not "you too"
ReplyDeleteNo, I have never ridden aside (at least not on a side saddle, I have "practiced" on my Natural Ride)before. Sadly, the saddle is not a very high quality one, though I made sure the leather was good and that it fit the horse and me before purchase. It is stable and balanced and comfortable, so I guess it's OK. It is a Royal King or something like that. It is a Western, but I thought I might like that better than an English seeing as how they are so FLAT. I don't have pics of just the saddle, sorry. I paid a mere $200 for it. There is this tack store about 30 minutes from me that is UNREAL. They have so much stuff for so cheap! They had 2 more of the saddles too. Most of the stuff is crap, but for bits, wraps, blankets, halters, bridles and used saddles they can't be beat. They also have a huge selection of barn hardware, hay bags, grooming supplies, etc. I mean, you have to see to believe this.
ReplyDeleteI love a big fat blaze, must give cyber hug to blaze pony!
ReplyDeleteIs that tack store pleasant ridge? Cause they have unbeatable prices on everything and some good, and some bad saddles.
ReplyDeleteI want a sidesaddle one day, hopefully in the not so distant future.
Wow! You put together one classy look there. Pretty. The second photo is very elegant.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Glad you found one that is comfy for you and your horse!
ReplyDeleteYAY! :D
ReplyDeletePurty horsie, purty dress!
Royal King.... they seem to have quality trees but not great leather.
Clean it really well with plenty of saddle soap and water, and when it's dry, use Walsh saddle oil on it. Don't forget to oil from the underside, too.
It helps.....
*hugs* you definitely deserve something fun right now! So glad you've got a good family around you.
Post a pic of your side saddle, inquiring minds want to drool over it! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, pretty cool. I'm jealous... a lot.
ReplyDeleteYou look great!!! I'm impressed, jumping too. I made it to slow jog the few times I rode. You must have gotten the perfect fit to be so comfortable so fast.
ReplyDeleteI ride with the Medieval Horse Guild. One of our members does Side Saddle. She competes in 4th level Dressage aside and astride. She Also jumps aside even competed at the Washington D.C. show a couple times. This is a tribute video to her old gelding on YouTube. A lot of it is side-saddle.

I don't know if it was the saddle fit or my lack of sense, but I just did it. I always have said, there is a thin line between bravery and stupidity. Sometimes I wonder about myself...
