Time Capsule Tacky

Ooh! Remember when this was one of the colors Wintec saddles came in? The tacky saddle phenomenon is not a recent development folks. Of course this was when Wintecs didn't cost nearly as much as a nice leather saddle. Sigh, the good old days.

    I like the saddle pad, the saddle I could do without, even though I love my new wintec 500, the older ones just always looked very odd and cheaply made to me.

    LOL I have ridden in that exact same saddle. Funny enough it was quite comfy.

    We OWN the exact saddle! Its out in our tackroom! Great for riding in the rain, at the beach. We did not buy the matching girth. What were we thinking?

    Not a fan... and after reading the info on Saddle Fitting- the Inside Journey blog... I can't imagine the synthetic saddles holding up half as long in any of these stories.

    GOD, I hated that thing. My BFF from HS had one. When she quit riding she gave it to me to do "what you will." My college BFF used it as a lesson saddle sometimes, and during such a time was the ONLY time I ever sat in the damn thing. I believe I may have been giving a tune up after a beginner lesson or something, then using the horse for a golf cart for a few minutes...

    Blech.

    I was "asked" (hah) to go fetch something from our tackroom. The only fast way back to that area of the farm was to jump out of the paddock over a x-country fence in the fenceline dividing the property's 2 pasture board fields. Ok, yeah, sure, I've jumped that before, so being infinately lazy, I go for it.

    And I quite nearly clicked my heels behind the cantle over the 2 foot-ish jump. YIKES!

    Thinking it *had* to be me, I jump up a small bank. No, not me. HOW one EARTH did anyone ever manage to keep thier leg still against that awful strip of plastic??? I barely survived two small jumps!

    Anyhoo, it was maroon and I managed to unload it on consignment for about $150 with the fittings. I tried to give her the $$ but she really just didn't care any more.

    It was one of the very first Wintecs, I think around........1987 or so. And they weighted only about 6 pounds. lol We bought it for trail riding, but it had a very poor fit.

    Yeah, Wintec has DEFINITELY come a long way! I am so happy with mine and my husband likes it so much that we are getting him an Endurance one.

    That is hilarious that you own one, txtrigger! You should totally see if you can find that girth and the pad.

    And yes, I like the pad too.
