Scary Pink Saddle of the Week

Oh my, apparently this trend has reached the folks "down under" too. I'm sorry. Love those stirrups too by the way.

I really am just stunned.

  1. The pony looks to be saying "please help me, nice people... or at least fix this bridle"

  2. why do people NOT research things before the jump head first into something?? I don't understand.

  3. TNC... because research is BAAAD. Learning is useless. We can just figger' it out our ownselves.

Such a weird phenomenon. I've never understood it, or why people who DO get proper training and research their decisions are often looked down upon.

The American version of deliberate ignorance is what fuels the rise of feel-good megachurches. The kind that won't use a cross anywhere, because it might make people uncomfortable.

"No, we won't take lessons, read some magazines or go to horse shows EVAR cuz then someone might critique me and make me cry!!!!!! And it's none of yer bizness if I'm doin it wrong even though I put it out there on the web for the universe to seeeeee!!!!!!!"

  4. Y'know, after looking at some of these photos...

Experienced horsepeople often joke about the book-smart beginner, but I'd SO rather deal with one of those - at least they WANT to learn something, and have already done the best they can....

  5. The australian saddle with the western pad completes the "I don't know what I'm doing" look! I think the bridle is on properly and is an australian-style bridle, but it still looks funky. And what is UP with those stirrups? I don't think those stirrups are standard aussie saddle wear. Looks to me like western stirrups were switched out.......It all just looks awful, sloppy, overly PINK and generally crappy.

cattypex: how about the new trend that we don't talk about sin because that is "negative". I guess is there is no such thing as sin, there is no need for the cross! What is this world coming to?

  6. I think the browband is almost in that poor pony's eyes. What if he's blinded by a horrible, pink browband? That seems like a really bad way to go.

  7. Aussie bridles do ride a little lower:

However, I think they still have it on too low.

  8. I also like the way the rope is around the pony's neck. Do they ride w/it like that? and have it come undone and drag the ground?
Well, we all started at the bottom and learned our way up. Hopefully this person is also learning.

  9. OldMorgans: The problem with being new is you get some bad information. I was told to give corn and corn oil to an arab......he was higher than a kite! Turned out this horse got higher than a kite on anything but straight grass hay though. Also, was told (by a so-called horse trainer) to use a martingale in combination with a curb bit. After the horse dumped me, I checked online and learned you NEVER do that! When we were new to the horse world, we'd ask a question and get 10 very different answers. Started researching things ourselves and after that progress was a whole lot easier.

  10. Wow. I remember emailing this picture to you, but I'm still appalled.

  11. Drillrider... I'm not much of a standard-issue Christian, but I do believe that "sin" (as in, the harm we do to ourselves and others every day) is definitely alive and well, and if you're going to believe in Christ, you'd better be HAPPY about that cross, because ... DUH... I kind of learned in Lutheran Catechism that it's the WHOLE POINT. Not as in "Great White Invisible Sky Dude will ZAP you straight to Hell," but as in "Yay! Look how awesome Jesus is, because he DID this for all of us and so you're pretty much gonna be OK because of it, and you should try to be THAT awesome, too."

Anyway..... you also have good points about getting BAD advice. If you're very new to horses, your boastful but ignorant neighbor/friend of friend/uncle/whoever might SEEM reasonable, because they fake it pretty well, but....... thank GOD (literally) I got hooked up with knowledgable folks early on, and that my parents were savvy enough to figure out the difference. (Pre-Internet days, yo)

  12. I don't think they have the Aussie bridle on too low--it's too big for that horse. I used to use Aussie bridles because they are halter bridles and I had Aussie saddles. Plus, is that supposed to be a DOUBLE bridle? WTF????

CP--LOVE both your posts. You rock!

  13. I think the pony is also stunned. Probably thinking: you spent MONEY on this stuff when I need a farrier who can actually trim my hooves to the same length?

  14. OKAAAY. I think I see a girth under that mess but what are those pink straps hanging off the underside of the saddle?

  16. hmm this reminds me of the other day when after walking through a tack stand i commented to my mom about how cheap everything looked, her response "they get more money selling cheap tack to the ya-hoo's than to the ppl who really invest in it." makes since, i've noticed that most ppl just getting into it are not willing to go buy a $1,000 saddle, even if it will last them years longer.....

  17. If I were in the market for a saddle, I'd be trolling Ebay for sure... because I, too, don't want a $400 NEW saddle, but there are plenty of NICE used saddles outt here for that price.

  18. I can understand the pink if it's a little girl's pony, but it does look a bit off. Is it just me, or maybe the picture, but do it's front legs look crooked, at least it's left one does, like bent funny at the knee?
