AAAAH! My eyes!

WARNING: This post contains images that may permanently burn your retinas without proper eye protection.

Gah, where do people come up with this crap? Nylon with silver conchos and leather fringe? NEON green Nylon at that. Ouch, I need sunglasses. It just amazes me to no end that people actually buy and USE this stuff. Like, pay money for it, on purpose.

  1. Those of us who distance trail ride often have the super bright colors on our horses. But it is a nice biothane, no fringe or "bling". Some use it in case they part ways from their horses in wooded areas, to help find the horse, and so a hunter might not mistake it for a realy big Bambi. But I just do not understand the tack like above, with the fringe, conchos etc. that would market to the "western" crowd. Gymkana riders? Drill teams? It seems to tacky for for those groups too!

  2. Simple hi-visibility tack as txtrigger describes for trail riding makes perfect sense to me in the same way my husband's "eeewww yellow" motorcycle gear does.

    This...thing, no.

  3. Yikes and double yikes! I get the visibility thing and I even get the fringe for use at times and in areas with lots of flies but not this outfit.

  4. Ok I will admit the silver conchos and leather fringe are icky but the neon green nylon... i like, but then one of my horses is a dark bay and looks good in lime green, so her training and small show tack is neon green..... minus the silver and fringe though

  5. I dont know why but Fringe has really hit the barrel racing world. Thos epads listed earlier are all the rage in some markets. In my store I actually carry a couple from a well known supplier! We also have boot covers with fringe, barrel racer's shirts with fringe.... I think it has something to do with the way the fringe looks as the horse is turning and running 9which in some picture is actually pretty cool) but I would never wear it or put it on my horse

  6. hehe I have tack like this and I love it, I have a light blue headstall and breastcollar. no fringe though, just conchos. mine are different styled conchos, but i think its from the same manufacture as that one. Everyone is entitled to their opions though, I happen to love nylon tack with silver conchos. its not overkill anyway. and the fringe comes from the rodeo style.

  7. Never, never, never have liked fringe and I do like some neon colors, but light, exceedingly blinding, and bright green is not one of those colors! PUKE!

  8. I switched to this window and shrieked.

    The husband looked over.

    He shrieked.

(And if I was going for visibility, the correct color, my friends, is ORANGE)

  10. Wouldn't all that fringe get in the horse's eyes? I'm sure my horse wouldn't be happy if I were trying to go fast on her in an arena and that crap was waving in her face.

I don't mind nylon tack as long as it's well made. I have used it in the past and it's nice because it's easy to clean and comes in fun colors. But the color does fade over time, so I've switch to biothane. I also have a Wintec saddle for trail riding and arena training work--wash and go! :)

Honestly, I like bright colors on horses, especially the "citrus" colors like orange, lime green, and yellow on a sorrel horse. But that fringe is out of control.

  11. Once I was watching trail riders pass by my house on the way to the Houston rodeo and there was this one group of black ladies, about 30 of them who all wore neon pink boots, hats, and their tack was black and neon pink. Their stage coach blared Zydeco music and was black with neon pink writing. I forget now what it said...but it was the most awesome sight ever! LOL Their horses were beautiful by the way, fat and bright eyed.

  12. On motor cycles we call that mosquito abatement! With West Nile on the rise maybe that's what the manufacturers were thinking?? Ok, probably not.
