More Tartan Travesties

If you thought yesterday's saddle was bad, check out these two. I received an email from a saddle wholesaler in India trying to get me to purchase tack from them (I guess they thought I was a dealer) and these were on their webpage. They are synthetics and actually look decently well made. The color however, is less than attractive. Who comes up with this crap? Who in their right mind would ride one of these. While I admit that they are a more appealing plaid than yesterday's example, they are still quite tacky.

Just when I think I have seen the worst the tack industry has to offer, I keep being amazed at the things people keep coming up with.

  1. Oh my! Ok, the teal/purple/black one, I could almost handle it. It's a bit subdued. But I'd never willingly ride it in public view. And while the first one is better than yesterday's ickiness, and I'd gladly take a well-made saddle if they wanted to give it to me... NO THANK YOU on the color. Ewwww

  2. The only hope for these 2 saddles would be since they are synthetic, maybe they can be dyed. Good lord WHY??? when black goes with everything.

  6. LOL, I luvvvv blackwatch plaid. I'd seriously consider the second one as a trail saddle if it wasn't a piece of crap.

  8. Crazy pads, crazy socks with low boots, maybe even crazy half'chaps, crazy polo shirts and changeable browbands are available for schooling variety, so why the saddle itself? Plus, what pad would you put with the crazy saddle? Contrasting crazy plaid?

  10. There must be a screw loose in my head or something. For the second day in a row I like a piece of ugly tack. I like the blue purple green one. Generally, I don't like plaid, I own nothing plaid. Oh, well. Do they make dressage saddles? I could see the looks I would get at "Devon"! hahaha

  11. Just when you all might have thought I had taste- I actualy like the second one. Is the plaid actually cloth of some sort?

Otherwise I can see the dye coming off. Cloth wears out too, so not a saddle I would spend a lot on for those reasons.

Not as scary as yesterdays though.

  13. I agree, the second one is halfway decent... Until I try imagining it on a horse. I like the color combination, but NOT on my pinto, thank you very much.

Though I suppose it would be kind of funny to put it on a saddle pad with exactly the same pattern and colors, kind of like the matching ties that were popular in the 90s. ;o)

  14. I've been dying for plaid full-seats, honestly..

    but OMG!!! NO PLAID SADDLES!!!

I guess my children will call me old-fashioned someday when I won't be caught dead in a cool patterned saddle like theirs. I may not be too old-fashioned for plaid breeches and rhinestone browbands, but I can't imagine not having a plain saddle.

  15. I guess what I really don't understand is why would you spend money on a saddle that you can't change? I mean, I like just a plain black or brown saddle. I'm not a big fan of tooling on Western saddles (probably because of my English background), but the right pattern that is stamped evenly and professionally can look really gorgeous. I can then dress it up or down with colorful pads, browbands, conchos, rosettes, whatever. If my tastes change or I have several different horses I ride, then I can change those colors easily. Plus it comes down to money--a saddle can be very expensive--why not buy a classic and well-designed, useful style that lasts? A saddle that's a trendy color or style will just go out of style and would be hard to resell.

I like the color and pattern of the second one, but why not just save some money and buy or make a saddle pad in that color if that's what you want? Plus you won't be covering it up by sitting directly on it.

I do think the first one looks photoshopped, though.
