Friday Parenting FAIL

OK, who in their right mind thought this was a good idea? Oh, lets put our 13 month old on the ginormous draft horse and NOT HOLD ON TO HIM!! It's so cute! Sure, until ol' Dobbin there moves and the child falls roughly 6 or so feet to the ground and lands on his UNHELMETED head. Sure, cute. And WTF is up with the "bridle" on this horse? Apparently is is a BOZ bridle with a BOZ bareback saddle without the cantle attachment. Can we not use a normal bridle? I guess with the Parelli phenomenon, everything that goes on a horse's head has to be parachute cord now. And, while it may be so terribly cute that the baby is "holding" the reins, it's not like it will do any good should the horse bolt. The horse is not even being held, there is NOTHING to stop a disaster here. I hope for the child's sake, the parents will grow some brains and realize the idiocy of this. Unfortunately, I have my doubts.

I am just in shock at the stupidity here. Didn't think I could be shocked any more, but I am.

  1. I'd say the little tyke is somehow tethered or roped onto that pad, so if the horse shifts or changes footing he won't immediately plummet to the hard ground, but I probably know better than that. Looks all too small for that horse anyway (could just be the furry winter coat).

  2. The 13-month-olds I've known would have been quite capable of falling off all by themselves, no movement by the horse needed.

  3. I believe old Dobbin there has seen better days. He has a very tired and old look in his eye. Yes he's a saint of a horse for putting up with this stupidity and the bridle....WTF? The tack is about as absurd as the breeders' of this fine young 13 month old. I hope they get themselves spayed & neutered before they create a whole society of 'let's dress our trusty Old Dobbin in this horrific tack and endanger the life of the weakest and youngest of our brood'.

  4. I believe Darwin called this Natural Selection.

  5. But then again, it's a pretty cute kid. It would be cuter if Mom or Dad were dressed similarly and standing HOLDING the infant as to prevent head injury. And scale-wise, that doesn't look like a full draft to me, but I could be wrong.

  6. Using kids as crash test dummies is another of my favorite pet peeves. Want your youngster broke, throw the kids up there!

I just had a conversation with someone that allows her four year old to ride without a helmet. She states that "she lets them decide". HELLO, they are kids, as a parent you are supposed to decide safety issues FOR THEM!

I always, always, always wear a helmet and it has saved my bacon more than once. I tell people that I have something between my ears I'd like to protect. Evidently, there are many people who don't have anything between their ears except.........air!

  7. I wouldn't have a problem with it if there were people holding onto the kid and the horse, but that not being the case, 'nuff said.

  8. Sure is cute baby though. God-please protect him!

  9. I want to hope that hiding on the other side is mom holding onto the little guy. Maybe she is just standing so you cant see her? My rose colored glasses of a mind wants to believe no mom or dad on earth would be this dumb.

  10. A few weeks ago, my trainer put her baby in my saddle after I dismounted, but my horse was tied at that point and she had her hands on him the whole time. I have to confess I thought of grabbing my camera, but I never have have expected or even wanted her to take her hands off of him. I mean, how dumb can you be?

  11. Can someone explain the point of "bareback saddles" to me? The point of bareback is no pads and no stirrups! That's why it's so good for you. That and not having to groom so meticulously or clean the saddle afterwards!

And agree with everything said so far too

  12. Awwww How Cuuuuute!
"We now have bragging rights that our son started riding before any others!
No One can top us now!"

This is the sick dementia these people have! I've seen time and time again, that is the sole purpose of this incredible, shocking, complete irresponsible act!

They need to be turned into CPS... to atleast have the seriousness brought to their attention. They may only get a slap on the wrist, but sometimes that helps people WAKE UP!

  13. My husband's niece is dumb enough to do this, and grandma has the photo proudly posted on her living room wall. Makes me crazy to look at it. You wouldn't put a baby on top of a dresser and leave it unattended, why in God's name would you think it's o.k. to leave it on a horse!!!!

  14. lmao. did anyone check out the price list on the Boz website?

$1995 for a BAREBACK PAD. and, if you want the removable cantle thrown in, it's only $2495!

this website is a hoot. check out the "Boz Bucking Dummy" when you get the chance.

  16. OMG... Monday... I had to post on my blog on that deal... my blog may offend a few people, but I was completely offended with that site you linked up and needed to vent... http://horsecommonsense.blogspot.com/

  17. People at my barn keep asking when I'm going to put DD on a horse. I keep saying, when a helmet fits her head and she's coordinated enough! Another woman at the barn just posted a FB picture of her 18 month old helmetless. I think someone was next to him, but still...

  18. That is crazy! What is the BOZ stuff? I've never seen it back here.

  19. Meh, I wouldn't say it's the brightest thing... but I would bet someone is just off frame.

Those old drafts, you get so confidant around them you find your self doing things that aren't the brightest.
