Looking a bit green...

This one is almost painful to look at. The searing shade of lime green clashes so badly with the lovely deep chestnut color of the leather that it makes my eyes hurt. Then there is the fact that it is festooned in crosses. I will never understand the obsession with plastering your saddle with religious symbolism. If you MUST, why not one of the little saddle crosses, it says "I'm Christian," without slamming everyone in the face with neon green symbols of your chosen religion. I mean, if I were to go into the arena in a saddle covered in pentagrams, people would get a bit edgy, especially here in the South. The sad part is, were it not for the color of the fake ostrich skin and the crosses, it wouldn't be a bad looking saddle.

  1. Ok... I will be the first to admit I LOVE LIME GREEN, but that??? That hurts even my eyes!!!> If the saddle were a light oil, tone down the intensity of the lime, take away the crosses and perhaps it would not be that bad... but that... EWWWWWWWWWW and yes you are right in the south if you rod einto an arena with pentagrams on your saddle you'd be horse-whipped! You should see the looks I get when I go into an arena in my saddle. It's got celtic knots tooled all over it!

  2. T&B I would love to see your saddle!

And I see by your picture that you're a Christian, but you never strike me as a pushy one, and that is very cool. :-)

Also, bad taste is bad taste, no matter what religion.

  3. Cattypex email me at eros_n_equus@hotmail.com and I'll send you pics of my saddle... It's my pride and joy when it comes to tack, not only because of the celtic knots but in 2008 i also had it autographed by George Strait!!!! I will never sell that saddle even if I wind up weighing a 1000 lbs and can't ride, it will always be with me! lol

As for the Christian comment, I am far from a pushy one:)I try not to be pushy about anything really and I know I am far from perfect. Honestly I have only recently come to truly accept the Lord as savior, I went to Christian schools and to church.... never fully accepted all of it... i have a blog about it

  6. I thought the cutout on the pommel swell looked a bit like a clover. I'd like it if it was bright green, with shamrock cutouts! Covered in four leaf clovers... Sure, and the luck o'the Irish be with you!

Would you only be able to ride it one day a year, then?

  9. I rather like the saddle crosses that you see at speed events. They're little (and sometimes not-so-little) leather crosses that people tie to their saddles/breastcollars/whatever else. I normally see them tied to the flank cinch slot on one side of the saddle. Bright colors. Sparklies. Neons. And some look like they Bedazzled their little hearts out. But those little crosses are considered normal in the South, no matter how "out there" they are. I'd never put it all over my saddle or buy tack with the cross conchos (because they're sometimes put on upside down...and that's a whole 'nother issue in itself).

  10. I just have to say I would not buy this even if it were not 'slap your face" green. I prefer my religious preferences quiet and understated. (love the idea of the Celtic crosses, though.)

  11. I hate these saddles, they just look so so cheap in person.

  13. This one really doesn't bug me. I mean, its bright, but I've seen much, much worse. And I like the crosses, but it is kind of in-your-face (haha, that coming from the person that has political pins all over my backpack).
